COIMBATORE: Huzefa M. Patel stroked a fluent 81 (68b, 16x4) as host Coimbatore defeated Puducherry by 164 runs and entered the semifinals of the TNCA senior inter-district cricket tournament, for the S.S. Rajan Trophy, at the SNR Sons College grounds here on Friday.

Huzefa’s innings helped his team post 282 for nine in 50 overs. The Puducherry batsmen failed to get going and folded up for 118 in 22.2 overs. Left-arm fast bowler Venkatesh (four for 47) and Sunil Sam (three for 21) struck telling blows for Coimbatore.

SKCAS wins again

Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science, a bunch of experienced players from the reputed Kovai Volleyball Academy, scored its second straight win, defeating a fighting D.B. Jain College (Chennai) 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-11 in a crucial league encounter of the 34th State level inter-collegiate floodlit volleyball tournament, for the PSG Trophy, at the PSG College of Arts and Science (PSG CAS) courts on Friday.

The host, however, did not take much time in dispatching Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.

The results: League: Sri Krishna CAS (Cbe) bt D.B. Jain College (Chn) 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 18-25, 15-11; PSG CAS (Cbe) bt Dr. NGP CAS (Cbe) 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.

Panimalar EC triumphs

At Dharmapuri, Panimalar Engg. College (Chennai) scored a facile 25-17, 25-12 win over Eswari College of Engg. (Chennai) to clinch the women’s volleyball title in the Tamil Nadu Inter Engineering sports meet at the Jayam Engineering College courts on Friday.

Earlier, St. Joseph’s College of Engineering (Chennai) scored a hard-fought 25-17, 26-24 win over SRM University (Chennai) to take the third spot.

The results: Final: Panimalar EC (Chn) bt Eswari EC 25-17, 25-12; Third place: St. Joseph’s EC (Chn) bt SRM University (Chn) 25-17, 26-24.

Jamal Mohammed posts win

Host Jamal Mohammed College defeated Arul Anandar College 60-35 in a league fixture of the 12th inter-collegiate basketball tournament for the Krishnaswami Naidu Memorial Trophy in Tiruchi on Friday.
