The final between Madurai and Tiruvallur in the P.R. Thevar Trophy inter-District under-16 cricket tournament is poised for a close finish.

Resuming at the overnight score of 93 for two, Madurai was dismissed for 155, which accounted for a first innings lead of 23 runs. Tiruvallur in its second essay was bowled out for 188 in 39.5 overs. Needing 166 off 40 overs for victory, Madurai was 46 for two in 16 overs at stumps on second day.

Indian Overseas Bank retained the Rajamani Memorial Cup beating Indian Bank 2-0 in the final of the State-level hockey tournament on Saturday. S.S. Krishnamoorthy, Inspector General of Police (south zone), gave away the prizes.

Senthil retains title

B. Arul Senthil of Bishop Heber College, with seven points after the seventh and final round, retained the title in the Bharathidasan University inter-collegiate chess tournament here on Saturday.
