Churchill Brothers got a big boost ahead of its AFC Cup match against Warriors FC on Wednesday, after its star striker Sunil Chetri was granted visa.
After having been denied initially, Chetri was granted the visa after the intervention of the Ministry of External Affairs on the request of the Sports Authority of India.
His teammate and Afghan striker Balal Arezou was also initially denied visa before being cleared to travel to Singapore.
A win would keep Churchill in the hunt for a pre-quarterfinal berth after having won 3-0 at home. Churchill, with four points from three matches, is third in the group.
“Chetri will not want to sit on the bench, so I will most probably rest Arezou. But I do hope to rest Chetri and get him ready for our game against Dempo,” said Technical Director Subhash Bhowmick at a pre-match press conference. — PTI
