Churchill Brothers consolidated its position on top of the standings downing host East Bengal 3-0 in a 17th round match of the I-League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday.
Gabonese striker Henry Arnaud found the target twice in the first half to give Churchill Brothers a commanding lead before substitute Akhram Moghrabi increased the lead in the second session.
The convincing win helped Churchill extend its unbeaten run to nine matches, where the team won eight and drew just once. The Goa giant netted 37 points from 12 wins, a draw and two losses (15 matches). East Bengal remained on 33 points.
Henry, who saw an eighth minute header going wide, breached the home citadel in the 34th minute.
The brawny striker found the East Bengal net with a flick to deflect home a shot from his midfield colleague Steven Dias.
Another Dias centre in the injury-time before the break helped Henry double the lead for Churchill.
East Bengal tried to sting back in the second half but could not manage to break the resolve of the Churchill Brothers defence, which stood firm under the charge of Lebanese centre-back Bilal Najjarine.
Akram Moghrabi, who replaced Henry in the latter part of the second half, completed the scoreline for Churchill Brothers nodding home a curling freekick from Dias in the 83rd minute.
