Despite staying neck and neck with China in the first quarter, India lost to the defending champion 38-87 in the FIBA Asian women's basketball championship at Omura-Nagasaki on Tuesday.

India was level 12-12 with China, the World No.8, after the first quarter but was virtually out of the picture after that. Wei, with 15 points, was the top scorer for China while the dependable Geethu led India's chart with 12.

The results: China 87 bt India 38 (Geethu Anna Jose 12, Anitha Pauldurai 8); Korea 66 bt Japan 59; Chinese Taipei 83 bt Lebanon 55 .
