Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) defeated Madras Blues 2-1 in the IOB-Chennai Hockey Association senior division league championship here on Wednesday.

Skipper Thangadurai opened the account for ChPT in the 17th minute in a fine solo effort from the right.

ChPT enhanced the lead through a nicely executed penalty corner in the 42nd minute. Faking a drive, Soundarraj pushed it to Thangadurai and the captain deftly passed it to Iqbal Ali, who pushed it home.

With eight minutes remaining for the hooter, Blues reduced the margin through Nelson.

ChPT has six points from five matches while Blues has a solitary point from five.

Earlier, FCI edged out SAI ‘A' 3-2. Jayakumar, Maheshwaran and Nandakumar scored for FCI. Gunasekaran and Thangaraj converted for SAI.

Bashyam-Natarajan take honours

S. Bashyam and R. Natarajan won with a score of 60.95 IMPs, playing North-South while Vijayaraghavan and T.M. Ravindran came first playing East-West direction with 60.90 IMPs in the CBA weekly bridge tournament held recently.

Combined Districts wins title

At Theni, Combined Districts beat City in the final of the U-16 N.R. Saamiappa Mudaliar trophy on the basis of the first innings lead to lift the title on Tuesday.
