Chennai: “Always remember the three Ds — determination, dedication and discipline,” said National cricket selection panel chairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth to an eager bunch of youngsters here on Friday.

He was inaugurating the Chennai Cricket Academy at the New College ground. Later, the former India captain distributed cricket coaching material, including view CDs, to the aspirants.

Bharat Kumar head coach

Former Tamil Nadu and South Zone paceman K. Bharat Kumar will be head coach at the Academy. “It is a great opportunity to give something back to the game. Everyone is very cooperative here. I could see a fair amount of talent in the youngsters. This needs to be nursed.”

Bharat Kumar, also in the panel of coaches at the TNCA Cricket Academy, will be assisted by R. Balachander and Mohammed B. Ilyas. K. Gopinath will teach yoga to the budding cricketers.

Turf wicket soon

“We have matting and concrete pitches now and plan to add a turf wicket soon,” said Bharat Kumar. Cricket training will be imparted to both boys and girls above the age of six.
