THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The prize-money for winners of the various events for school children who won medals for Kerala in the National School Games was distributed by the Education Minister, M.A. Baby at a function held here on Wednesday.
A total of Rs. 10.50 lakhs was distributed among 136 students who had represented the State last year in athletics, aquatics, cycle-polo, judo, taekwondo, kho-kho and volleyball.
Speaking at the function, Mr. Baby hoped that the substantial increase in prize-money already announced by the Government would spur students to achieve greater laurels in the National Schools Games.
According to a recent Cabinet decision, the prize-money which was to the tune of Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 2,000 for winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals has been correspondingly increased to Rs. 25,000, Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.
