The Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) on Thursday announced that boxers winning each bout in the National championship, to be held at the Talkatora Stadium here from July 10 to 16, would get cash awards. Title sponsors of the championship Sahara and Videocon will jointly contribute for the cash awards.

A boxer will get Rs. 1,000 for winning in the preliminary round, while he will receive Rs. 2,000 for getting past the quarterfinal stage. A winner in the semifinal and final rounds will get Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 6,000 respectively.

Besides, team and kit sponsor Monnet will give a cash award of Rs. 10,000 to title winners in each weight category.

In order to help the boxers (international medallists) who do not find a place in their respective State or board teams as well as those who are currently part of the Commonwealth Games Core Group, the federation has created an ‘IBF entry.' This will provide a chance to these pugilists to take part in the Nationals.

However, the IBF team will not be considered for the team championship in the Nationals. — Principal Correspondent
