Calicut Colts emerged as the Kozhikode District ‘C’ Division cricket league champion here on Tuesday.

In its final match, Colts beat Boy Zone by two wickets to finish with an all-win record.

Boy Zone 138 in 26.3 overs (Javad 34, Brijesh three for 37) lost to Calicut Colts 142 for eight in 23 overs (Sudhin 44, Swaroop three for 36, Bageesh three for 43).

Nizar scalps five

Salman Nizar took five for 27 as host Malappuram was dismissed for 205 on the opening day of the North Zone (under-19) inter-district cricket tournament at Perinthalmanna on Tuesday.

In reply, Kannur reached 85 for two at stumps.

Malappuram 205 in 66 overs (Iqlas Naha 47, Salman Nizar five for 27) v Kannur 85 for two in 21 overs (P. Vishnu 37 batting, P.K. Mushtaq 34).

CUSAT chess

The 24th CUSAT all-India FIDE-rating chess tournament will be held at the Cochin University of Science and Technology hall here from May 9 to 13.

Jointly organised by the CUSAT Chess Club, the university’s youth welfare and physical education departments and the Cochin University Union, the tournament carries a total prize money of Rs. two lakh and offers Rs. 25,000 for the winner.

Sixty one prizes, in various categories, are on offer. Registration closes at 10 a.m. on May 9.

K. Babu, the State Excise Minister, will inaugurate the tournament.
