Dindigul: BSNL, Chennai entered the semifinal round robin league of the 15th annual Cauvery Ammal memorial Trophy State-level basketball tournament defeating SAI, Salem 84-65 at Vadamadurai near Dindigul on Monday.

Others to enter the semifinal league were Southern Railway, Chennai, Port Trust, Tuticorin and Armed Police, Chennai.

Somasundaram in lead

Top seed S.K. Somasundaram (8.5 points) of Salem shared the lead with S. Kaushik of TCA, Chennai in the boys' section at the end of the tenth round in the 20th State under-11 chess championship for Dolphin Trophy at Madurai on Monday.

Easy for Blues FC

Blues FC, Velangudi thrashed Nehru Youth FC, Tirunelveli 5-0 in the annual champion club football tournament for the Universal Trophy at the Krishna Stadium, Velangudi near Karaikudi on Monday.

Murthy (28th minute, 34th), Periannan (31st), Vigneshwaran (41st) and Chinnadurai (65th) scored.

The other match between Dr. Ambedkar Football Club, Erode and NLC Sports Hostel, Neyveli did not come off as the latter did not turn up.

Indian Bank posts win

Indian Bank (Chennai) coasted to a comfortable 25-20, 25-16, 25-11 win over Southern Railway in its opening fixture in the Classic Polo all-India volleyball tournament for men and women at the Nanjappa HSS courts in Tirupur on Monday.
