KOCHI: BPCL Kochi Refinery retained the Ernakulam District ‘A’ division cricket league title here on Friday after defeating Maruthi Homes TCC ‘B’ by 61 runs at the Tripunithura Palace Oval. Vishnu Sunder, with a five-wicket haul, sparkled in the victory.

BPCL KR finished its engagements in the eight-team league with six wins and one loss for a total of 124 points.

“Though the league still has a few matches to go, our total is unbeatable,” said the BPCL Kochi Refinery Cricket Academy coach P. Balachandran, a former Kerala Ranji coach.

Muthoot ECC, with 61 points from four games, is the closest to BPCL and even if the side wins its next three matches, the maximum it can hope for is 121 points with 20 points being awarded for each victory.

Earlier, on Thursday, Cordiant Sports Foundation’s C. P. Rizwan, with an unbeaten century, and Muthoot ECC’s mediumpacer Jiju Janardhanan, with six wickets, stole the show.

Cordiant Sports Foundation 287 for six in 45 overs (C. P. Rizwan 112 n.o., P. Ramkumar 50, N. K. Arjun 46, Arun Ramesh three for 70) bt Maruthi Homes TCC ‘B’ 103 in 40.4 overs (V. S. Sunil four for 55, A. A. Fahad three for 19).

Pattara Swantons CC 125 in 35.3 overs (Sebastian Antony 47, Jiju Janardhanan six for 38) lost to Muthoot ECC ‘A’ 127 for three in 17.5 overs (Waleed 55).
