KOLKATA: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Sourav Ganguly joined practice on Wednesday along with three of his Bengal teammates and pace spearhead Ishant Sharma at the Eden Gardens.
Having joined the camp for a day, Manoj Tiwary, Ashok Dinda and Wriddhiman Saha will be released for the Deodhar Trophy camp commencing at Cuttack on Thursday.
Aussie Brad Hodge is expected to join the KKR camp by this weekend.
Speaking to the media after the two-hour practice, Ganguly noted that Knight Riders' strength was its bowling especially with the presence of Ishant, Ajit Agarkar, Dinda, Eklak Ahmed and Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka.
The KKR skipper will also have the services of South African Charl Langeveldt and Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mendis and other specialist bowlers.
Ganguly said not getting all the players together for a few days would not affect the team's composition.
“The players may attend a different camp but the point is all of them are practicing which is important to us,'' he said referring to the three Bengal players joining the Deodhar camp.
“We are focusing on getting a balanced squad of 15,'' he said and added, “the choice of the second wicketkeeper will also be decided shortly.''
Meanwhile, the West Bengal Government has decided to felicitate Sachin Tendulkar during the IPL. According to informed sources, the govt. has requested Ganguly to convey the wish and deal on the issue. When asked whether Tendulkar should be considered for Bharat Ratna award, the former India captain said “Bharat Ratna should get Bharat Ratna.''
