Chennai: Dutch captain Minke Booij was named the World Hockey Player of the Year 2006. The Dutch defender, who captained her team to World Cup glory, received the award after the final against Australia in Madrid on Sunday.
Korea's Mi Hyun Park was declared the Young Player of the Year.
The awards were presented by the IOC Honorary President for life and FIH Honorary Member, Juan Antonio Samaranch, and FIH President, Els van Breda Vriesman.
