Bloom Chess Academy (Tiruvallur) lifted the Renganayagi Varatharaj Engineering College rolling trophy by winning the Chettinadu Inn TN State FIDE-rated team chess championship at Sri Kalaivani Vidyalaya MHSS here on Thursday.

Bloom Chess Academy, with 13 points, won its seventh and final round against Golden Eagles (Madurai). ICF (Chennai) defeated Indian Bank (Chennai) to finish runner-up.

In the TN State Blitz chess championship, Grandmaster R.R. Laxman of ICF won the title with 6.5 points from seven rounds. Defending champion P. Maheswaran (Sivakasi) finished second.

Final standings (top five): 1. Bloom Chess Academy 13; 2. ICF 12; 3. Indian Bank 11; 4. Chess Gurukul ‘A’ 10; 5. Chennai District 10.

Dileep nets winner

Dileep helped Nellai Youth beat National Engineering College 1-0 in the Tirunelveli ‘A’ division football league at the St. Xavier’s College grounds at Tirunelveli on Wednesday.

In the Tirunelveli ‘B’ division football league, Nehru Youth Friends FC defeated Pearls Recreation Club 3-0 here recently.

Trophy shared

Coimbatore and Kancheepuram shared the S.S. Rajan Trophy as the final of the TNCA inter-district tournament was called off without a ball being bowled owing to heavy rain at the TNCA academy grounds, Theni, on Thursday.
