Indian Oil started its league phase on a bright note with a 7-0 win over Indian Air Force in a Pool ‘A' match of the 47th Nehru hockey tournament at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here on Saturday.

Prabhjot Singh (2), Hamza Mujtaba, Inderjit Singh, Roshan Minz, Deepak Thakur and V. Raghunath scored for Indian Oil which led 5-0 at the half time.

In Pool ‘B', Namdari scored from a penalty corner in the last minute through Harpreet Singh to force a draw against Punjab National Bank XI, which had taken the lead in the eighth minute through Jatinder. It was a much-improved show from Namdhari XI after a 0-6 loss to Air India on Friday.

Army XI began on a rousing note in Pool ‘A' when it beat South Central Railway 3-1. Jurum Kujur, Mansid Bhengra and Eliazer Lakra scored for Army XI in the first half while Innocent Kullu reduced the margin. — Special Correspondent
