VISAKHAPATNAM: Goa and Andhra forced draws against Tamil Nadu and Karnataka while Hyderabad recorded an innings win over Kerala in the round-robin matches of the Vijay Merchant trophy South Zone under-16 tournament here on Wednesday.
Goa, after following on, put up a brave fight and ended the final day with the last two wickets remaining.
Karnataka could only take a first innings lead over Andhra as the home team batsmen put up a good show. This included a 92-run stand for the sixth wicket between top-scorer Vikram Surya (83, 9x4) and B. Sivacharan Singh (67, 7x4) as Andhra replied with 374 against Karnataka’s 456 for six.
S. Gopal registered a five-wicket haul for Karnataka.
Kerala performed a little bit better than in the first innings before losing to Hyderabad.
The third round of matches commence on Friday.
