Qualifier Bhuvana Kalva of Andhra Pradesh, ranked 49th in the country, sent 16-year-old third seed Victoria Chehal of National Tennis Academy packing in the first round of the women’s singles main draw at the Central Excise AITA Open grass court tennis tournament here on Monday. Bhuvana won 6-1, 6-1.
The tournament, which works as the precursor to the National grass court event, has drawn a number of high ranked players looking to sharpen their skills ahead of the big event slated for next week.
In the men’s singles main draw, T. Elwin Anthony of Tamil Nadu defeated eighth seed Sagar Manjanna of Karnataka 6-1, 6-4. The rest of the seeds made it to the next round.
