Bhajinder Singh of Guru Nanak School (Attapur) hogged the limelight in the Panchayat Yuva Krida Abhiayan third National rural sports meet in Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab), winning the above-80kg category boxing bout over Mander of Haryana in the final on Sunday, according to information received here.

Bhajinder was also presented a cash award for his display.

Andhra won five silver in all, in both the men's and women's sections.

Dheeraj wins title

G. Dheeraj of Ramadevi Public School won the juniors category title with 5.5 points from six rounds in the Brilliant Trophy chess tournament here.

T. Vighnasree and B.L. Maneesh finished second and third respectively with five points each from six rounds.

T. Purushothaman won the Open title with 5.5 points from six rounds, while P. Satyanarayana and N. Gopikrishna were second and third respectively.

In the men's final, Ratna Raju defeated V. Srinivasa Rao 13-14, 21-10, 21-6, while N. Rajya Lakshmi beat Hima Bindu 18-16, 19-3 in the women's singles final.
