The Bengal Hockey Association felicitated Olympian Gurbux Singh on Friday for receiving the ‘Banga Bibhushan’, a title instituted by the West Bengal government to honour distinguished achievements in various fields.

Gurbux, who won two medals (a gold and a bronze) for India in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics in Tokyo and Mexico respectively, is the vice-president of BHA.

The felicitation programme also witnessed the presence of Olympians like Keshav Dutt and footballer Chuni Gowsami (also a recipient of Banga Bibhushan) among others.

The Commissioner of Kolkata Police Surajit Kar Purkayastha, a patron of BHA, was also felicitated. — Principal Correspondent
