Former internationals and India captains who have played for Mohun Bagan were happy the club’s ban from the I-League has been lifted.

The legendary Subimal (Chuni) Goswami, whose loyalty for Mohun Bagan is unsurpassed, led the voices thanking the National federation — AIFF — for its decision to lift the disqualification of Mohun Bagan.

Goswami, who celebrated his 75th birthday on Tuesday, said the news of Mohun Bagan being allowed to continue in the I-league was the best gift he received on the occasion.

“I could not have asked for a better gift than this today. It is very pleasing to know about the verdict. I must thank AIFF president Praful Patel for allowing Mohun Bagan to get back to the I-league,” Goswami said.

Another Olympian Samar (Badru) Banerjee echoed Gosawmi’s sentiments in thanking the national body.
