The Indian Football Association (IFA) has signed a sponsorship deal with Indo-German sports management company Shaapp to sponsor the Bengal football team in the upcoming 67th edition of the National football championship for the Santosh Trophy.
The championship is being hosted by Uttar Pradesh and Kerala from February 1 to March 3. Bengal has been placed along with Delhi and Railways in group ‘A’ of the qualifying round one, with two out of the three teams moving into the quarterfinal phase.
Eight clubs of Howrah — Baxara Nabachakra, Jagacha Bayam Samity, Baxara Anushilon Chakra, Howrah Annapurna Bayam Samity, Bally Boys Club, Bally Deshbandhu Club, Salkia Association and Howrah Saraswati Club — affiliated with Howrah District Volleyball Association are participating in the knockout tournament for the Pradipta Challenge Trophy.
The tournament is named after Pradipta Mandal who lost his life in a tragic road accident in Visakhapatnam in July. The two-day meet, sponsored by Pradipta’s parents, ends on Sunday.
Mary Kom participates in walk
Olympic bronze medallist, M.C. Mary Kom, on Saturday participated in a walk from Gol Park to Ramakrishna Mission in Narendrapur in connection with Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary.
The pugilist will be felicitated by the mission on Sunday.
