KOLKATA: Unseeded Haadin Bava of India played a good attacking game to down second seeded Xin Gao of China in the boys’ singles pre-quarterfinals of the ONGC ITF junior tennis here on Wednesday.

Gao, ranked 110th in the world, was no match for 465th ranked Bava, who went flat out to beat his opponent in 6-3, 6-1.

In another upset in the boys’ section, seventh seeded Vinod Gowda was shown the door by unseeded Pulat Babadjanov of Uzbekistan while unseeded Arjun Kadhe blanked eighth seeded Sidharth Sivakumar 6-0, 6-0.

Easy for Mohit

Top seeded Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash of India showed good form in beating compatriot Sai Teja Paladugu easily in straight sets.

Upsets continued in the girls’ section with the top seeded Napatsakorn Sankaew of Thailand crashing out against unseeded Tjasa Srimpf of Slovakia.

India’s Sharon Sanchana Paul got the better of eighth seeded Anna Tyulpa of Russia in a three-setter lasing 155 minutes.
