Hoping to unearth fresh talent and develop the sport at the grassroots level, Hockey India on Wednesday named V. Baskaran as High Performance Manager (South Zone).

Baskaran will work under High Performance Director Roelant Oltmans and be responsible for implementing development programmes at school, college and district levels down south.

Working in association with State units of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar, Puducherry, Telangana and Seemandhra, Baskaran will also monitor and evaluate the performance of coaches.

He will also be responsible for preparation and development of technical content for both coaches and players and identify talent in various age-groups.

“I thank Hockey India for giving me this opportunity,” said Baskaran, who assumes duties on July 1. — Special Correspondent
