Ahmedabad: Former chairman of selectors Kiran More said that the ban on Indian Cricket League cricketers from playing domestic cricket should be lifted.
“A word like ‘ban’ has no place in a democracy like India. It is not just about Ambati Rayudu, there are other talented players too who can play for India. It is not that the selectors are not watching the ICL, they do keep a tab and even enquire about our players. Hopefully the issue will be sorted out soon and the players can represent their States,” More, the ICL’s tournament director, said here on Monday night.
More also mentioned that the ICL has improved the cricketing infrastructure at all its venues. “Be it Hyderabad or Ahmedabad or Panchkula, a lot of money has been spent to upgrade the infrastructure. For instance here at the Sardar Patel Stadium, six crore was spent to upgrade the facilities, including installation of floodlights. The biggest plus is that people have come in large numbers to witness the matches and the fact they support it despite the ‘rebel’ tag, is very encouraging,” More said.
More added that the legal route is the only option left to seek official recognition from the ICC if all other efforts fail. “I hope even the Government of India looks into this matter and resolves it,” More said. — Principal Correspondent
