HYDERABAD: The Badminton Association of India has convinced national women’s doubles champions Jwala Gutta and Sruthi Kurien to continue playing together for the ABC Championship from April 7 in Seoul, and the Sudirman Cup from May 10 in China.

B.K. Verma, president of the BAI, informed the media here on Sunday that both shuttlers were keen to pair with new partners in future.

“Both Jwala and Sruthi felt they had become too stale and should look for new partners. We concurred with their decision but felt that the step should be taken only after the ABC and the Sudirman Cup,” Verma said. “After the two big events, Jwala will partner Ashwini Ponappa while Sruthi will play with Aparna Balan,” the BAI chief revealed.

He also said that the doubles combinations of V. Diju and Jwala and Ashwini and Chetan Anand would be sent to Indonesia for intensive training. The best among juniors will be sent to Malaysia as part of the preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, he said.

The other decision taken by the BAI today was to accept registration of players only through website henceforth to avoid the fudging of age.

Pullela Gopi Chand will continue to be the national coach till 2012 London Olympics, Verma said.
