Mohun Bagan rode a late charge to down Peerless SC 3-1 and picked its second consecutive championship leg win of the Calcutta Football League premier division at home on Friday.

Snehasish Chakraborty drew the first blood for Mohun Bagan in the 21st minute when he found the net off a Jose Barreto assist. Mounting a spirited challenge Peerless scored the equaliser through Waheed in the 32nd minute as the first half ended 1-1.

The deadlock persisted long into the second session before Snehasish found the lead again for Mohun Bagan in the 76th minute off a corner. Nigerian Okolie Odafa sealed issue for the host nodding home a freekick in the 79th minute.

IFA Academy stuns TFA

Indian Football Association Academy sprung a big surprise downing the famed Tata Football Academy by a solitary goal in the semifinals of the all-India inter-academy hosted by Mohun Bagan at its training facility at Durgapur. Biplab Bera scored the winner, according to information received here.

In the other semifinal JCT Academy, Phagwara pipped the host team — Mohun Bagan-SAIL Academy — 3-5 via tie-breaker. The two teams were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. The final will be played on Sunday.

YMCA table tennis

Madurai YMCA cleaned up Salem YMCA 3-0 in a women's super-league match of the all-India YMCA table tennis meet held here at the Chowringhee branch on Friday. In a men's group league match Salem got the better of Delhi 3-1. — Principal Correspondent
