CHANDIGARH: Ironical as it may sound, Man-of-the-Match Lance Klusener did everything right except finish the job for Kolkata Tigers.
Klusener brought Tigers to the threshold of victory but faltered to leave Lahore Badshahs victorious by seven runs in a high-scoring second semifinal of the Indian Cricket League’s Edelweiss 20s Challenge at Panchkula on Thursday.
Badshahs plays Hyderabad Heroes in the first final here on Friday.
Needing 18 runs in the final over to overhaul Badshahs’s 182 for seven in 20 overs, Tigers took nine off the first three deliveries bowled by Azhar Mahmood.
But it turned out to be an anti-climax when two dot balls followed as Klusener tried in vain for the maximum.
After a wide, Klusener holed out off the last ball for a 57-ball 91.
The scores: Lahore Badshahs 182 for seven in 20 overs (Imran Nazir 42, Humayun Farhat 39, Inzamam-ul-Haq 33, Naved-ul-Hasan 27, Azhar Mahmood 24, Shib Sagar Singh two for 19, Lance Klusener two for 26, Nantie Hayward two for 50) bt Kolkata Tigers 175 for four in 20 overs (Lance Klusener 91, Rohan Gavaskar 23 n.o., Deep Dasgupta 22, Shahid Nazir two for 12). — Special Correspondent
