KOLKATA: A fine all-round show by captain S. Badrinath propelled Chennai's Chemplast Sanmar to a fluent nine-wicket victory over defending champion Karnataka XI in the Twenty20 cricket tournament at the CCFC ground here on Thursday.
Playing fluent drives on either side of the pitch, the Tamil Nadu captain hammered an unbeaten 76 (41b, 6x4, 4x6) and had a big partnership with opener M. Vijay (55 n.o., 49b, 8x4, 1x6) to chase down Karnataka XI's target of 132.
The scores: Lankan Masters 142 for nine in 20 overs (Shanuk Pradeep 53, Sanjeewa Weerasinghe 41) lost to Indian Airlines 146 for one in 17.1 overs (Ravneet Ricky 62 n.o., J. Arun Kumar 38, R.S. Sodhi 37 n.o.) by nine wickets.
Karnataka XI 131 for nine in 20 overs (Rowland Barrington 31, Deepak Chougle 25, A. Avinash three for 26, S. Badrinath three for 25) lost to Chemplast Sanmar 133 for one in 15.1 overs (S. Badrinath 76 n.o., M. Vijay 55 n.o.) by nine wickets. Special Correspondent
