Auckland: Australia retained the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy after clinching an unassailable 3-1 lead following the rain-hit fourth ODI on Thursday. Chasing New Zealand's 238, Australia finished at 202 for four in 31.1 overs, which gave the side a six-wicket win by the Duckworth-Lewis method.

New Zealand put on a mediocre show with the bat and failed to last 50 overs; the host was dismissed in 44.1 overs.

In response, man-of-the-match Cameron White and skipper Ricky Ponting made fifties to ensure the revised target was reached with 17 balls to spare.
