BANGALORE: The Karnataka Rugby Football Union’s Assetz 7s tournament will be held at the Corps of Military Police grounds here on Saturday.

The event has attracted nine teams including an expatriate team consisting of players from Australia.

The participating teams include Bangalore Black Buck, Bangalore Old Boys, Bangalore Under-19, Mysore, Northern Hemisphere, CMP 1, CMP 2, Australia Expats.

RWF SC in semifinals

Rail Wheel Factory SC (RWF SC) romped into the semifinals of the Prasanna Kumar Memorial football tournament with a convincing 4-2 win over Universal FC at the Football Stadium here on Friday. RWF with a second straight victory topped Group A.

Playing under a steady drizzle for most of the match, the reigning A Division league champion took time to find its bearing. But once it did, with consistent goal-getter Naveen Babu finding the net in the 27th minute, there was no looking back.

Naveen was on target again in the 40th minute to help his team go into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

Prakash in the 78th minute and hardworking Lokesh in the 85th consolidated the lead for RWF while Anthony struck a brace of goals for Universal towards the end to reduce the margin. Universal will play BUFC, the third team in the group on Sunday, to determine the second qualifier.

Cricket scholarships

The Imtiaz Ahmed Cricket Academy will offer free two-month coaching to talented youngsters from April 8 at the Mount Carmel College grounds.

M. Krishnappa was elected the president of the Karnataka State Gymnastic Association at its Annual General Body Meeting here recently.
