MYSORE: S. Kishen, a trainee of Raghuveer Tennis Club, Mysore, had mixed fortunes in the JUSCO Cup AITA Champion Series junior tennis tournament here on Wednesday. Kishen stunned the fifth seed Indra Patwardhan of Maharashtra 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 and entered the under-14 singles semifinals, but later in the day, he went down to fourth seeded Ashok Kashyap 6-7(3), 3-6 in the under-16 quarterfinals.
The top seed S.D. Prajwal Dev got the better of Sahaj Dave of Gujarat 6-1, 6-3, while the fourth seeded Aditya Patnaik of Mahrashtra outplayed I. Akhil of Tamil Nadu 6-1, 6-2.
Wild card C. Visisht of Nagaraj Tennis Centre, Mysore, crushed the sixth seed B.R. Nikshep of Karnataka 6-0, 6-0 to complete the under-14 semifinal line-up.
In the girls' section, Shambavi Dixit of AP humbled the top seed Ashwini Suresh of Tamil Nadu 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 and unseeded Shreya Pai of Maharashtra beat Shammema of Tamil Nadu 6-4, 6-2 and entered the semifinals along with Tanushree Palanivel of Tamil Nadu and Bhavani Balakumar.
In the under-16 section, unseeded Lavanya Saravanan of Tamil Nadu beat D. Mahita of AP 7-5, 6-1. The others to make the last four round were the top seed Preethi Gokhale, Tanushree and Shambavi Dixit.

Sunfeast World 10K run on May 23
Champions Deriba Merga and Aselefech Mergia will be back this year to defend their men's and women's titles in the third edition of the Sunfeast World 10K run, scheduled for a May 23rd flag-off.
Announcing this at a press conference in Bangalore, Vivek B. Singh, Joint Managing Director, Procam International, the promoters for the event said: “The fact that the defending champions are back and the presence of joint winners of the first edition of the event in 2008 in the women's section — Elvan Abeylegesse and Grace Momanyi — has enhanced the status of the event.”
Goolihatti D. Shekar, Minister for Sports and Textiles, promised all help from the State Government.
“In the last two editions, the Government supported the event from outside. This time, however, Sports Authority of Karnataka (SAK) is one of the partners and all the government machinery will be associated to make the event a greater success,” promised I.M. Vittala Murthy, Secretary of Sports, Govt. of Karnataka.
With over 25000 runners expected to take the roads on May 23, the event is surely getting bigger. And with Fortis Hospitals as Medical Partners and Omron, a Japanese Company as Health Equipment Partners, stepping in as additional partners to the host of existing ones, the event is getting better too.
