NEW DELHI: The president of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Olegario Vaszuez Rana, landed in the capital on Thursday.
He was received by the former secretary general of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), Baljit Singh Sethi, and the executive president of NRAI, Avtar Singh Sethi.
The 74-year-old Rana is understood to be on a private visit, but is scheduled to be the guest of honour during the closing function of the Commonwealth shooting full bore championship in Gurgaon on Saturday.
“It is a honour and a morale-booster for the Indian shooting community to have the ISSF president as the guest of honour. He will be able to see the world class facilities here. His visit will be good for Indian shooting,” said T.S. Dhillon the sport manager for the full bore competition.
Rana was in Beijing for the ongoing World Cup and had accepted the invitation of the Indian shooting fraternity to visit the country on his way to Dubai.
Elected president of the ISSF since 1980, Rana had shot a world record in air rifle in 1973 and 1975. He has also been a member of the Olympics team for Mexico from 1964 to 1976, apart from making the national team for every world championship from 1966 to 1979. — Special Correspondent
