Udhagamandalam: Yashas Chandra made the best use of the cool conditions to emerge the champion in the top category (15-17 yrs) in the South Zone junior and sub-junior championship at the Ooty Gymkhana golf course here on Wednesday.

Nine-year-old Shivkaran of Coonoor took top spot in the new category for children below ten years that was played over two rounds of nine holes.

Category A-B (15-17 yrs): 1. Yashas Chandra 80, 74; 2. Shivnaren 80, 80; 3. Aalaap 74, 86. Category B (13-15): 1. S. Shivnaren 80, 80; 2. Haridhar Reddy 86, 85; 3. Nikhil Mohan 85, 95. Category C (11-13): 1. Aditi Ashok 88, 85; 2. K. Siddharth 87, 87; 3. K. Suryakumar 91, 91. Category D (10-12): 1. Prateek Nagaprasad 94, 90; 2. Yuvraj Joshi 95, 90; 3. Shruti Shenoy 103, 107. Category E (Below 10): 1. Shivkaran 36, 41; 2. Ananjan Kaushik 39, 43; 3. Ayushman Jaiswal 44, 45 .

State Taekwondo

The 23rd State taekwondo championship, jointly organised by the Tamil Nadu Taekwondo Association and the Salem District Amateur Taekwondo Association, will be held at the Mahatma Gandhi indoor stadium in Salem from April 23 to 25.

A 30-member contingent (14 boys and 16 girls) from Coimbatore, led by its district secretary and chief instructor, S. Premkumar, will take part in the three-day championship, which will be held in various weight classes in sub-junior, junior and senior men and women's section.

The top finishers from this meet will get to represent the State in the forthcoming National meet.
