WELLINGTON: Australian fast-bowler Doug Bollinger destroyed New Zealand's batting in the first cricket Test at the Basin Reserve here on Sunday.

The left-armer returned figures of five for 28 to help Australia dismiss New Zealand for 157 and enforce the follow-on.

Bollinger then claimed two wickets in New Zealand's second innings as the home side finished the third day on 187 for five, requiring a further 115 to make Australia bat again.

Australian off-spinner Nathan Haurtiz ended opener Tim McIntosh's stubborn, well-compiled 83 (220b, 10x4, 1x6) two overs before Daniel Vettori and Brendon McCullum took the umpires' offer of light.

Vettori had earlier top-scored in New Zealand's dismal first innings with 46. Ross Taylor, Martin Guptill and McCullum were the others to reach double-figures.

New Zealand began encouragingly in the second innings. McIntosh and B.J. Watling (33) raised 70 for the opening wicket.

But Bollinger struck twice to impair the home side's effort to save the match.
