CHENNAI: Jeribe Kelechi's 69th-minute strike featured in Don Bosco Annai Youth's 1-0 victory over Nethaji in a match of the CFA senior division football league here on Sunday.

A drab first half was followed by a marginally better second as both teams tried desperately to break the deadlock. Nethaji showed initiative in the early minutes of the second half through S. Vivek, whose curling right-footer from the left corner was tracing a certain trajectory into the goalmouth before it was parried away by the alert goalkeeper.

Fifteen minutes into the second session, Don Bosco Annai Youth's P. Sudhakar weaved in and out of Nethaji's defence and was poised tantalisingly close to the target when a tackle was effected.

A little later, Don Bosco Annai Youth took the lead through Kelechi. The African import ran about 30 yards on the left before angling the ball into the right corner of the net and then continued his victory sprint for another 30 yards.

Almost immediately after, Riaj Ahammed chipped a high cross from the left. Kelechi jumped to meet it but the ball glanced tamely off his pate. The last piece of the action was reserved for Sudhakar — later announced Player of the Match — who let loose a scorcher from 40 yards that ricocheted off the top of the bar.

Meanwhile, in the first division, Shyam Prasath's 56th-minute goal handed Challengers Union a 1-0 win over Madras Eagles.
