VISAKHAPATNAM: Left-arm spinner P. Jaya Kumar's six-wicket haul put runner-up Visakhapatnam on course to a 10-wicket win over Paradip while Kolkota shocked holder Mumbai by eight wickets in the league matches on the opening day of the all-India major ports cricket tournament here on Monday.

The scores: Paradip 66 in 18.3 overs (P. Jaya Kumar six for 11) lost to Visakhapatnam 67 for no loss in 6.1 overs (G.V.L. Satya Kumar 30 n.o., V. Abraham 25 n.o.).

Mumbai 113 in 27.4 overs (Anil Sakpal 37) lost to Kolkota 114 for two in 20.3 overs (Gaurav Majumdar 47).

Chennai 176 for nine in 30 overs (P. Raj Kumar 72, P. Mohan 56, Vijay Mhatre four for 21) lost to J.N.P.T. 177 for six in 28.5 overs (Nandu Mahtre 49, A. Gonsalves 41 n.o., Mangesh Thakur 33 n.o.).

Sakshi third

Sakshi finished third in the CMR-VJF inter-media cricket tournament, beating Andhra Jyothi by nine wickets in the match for losing semifinalists at the Railway stadium here on Monday. Earlier Vision won the title and Deccan Chronicle was runner-up.

The scores: Andhra Jyothi 125 for seven in 20 overs (K. Srinivasa Rao 40, Harish 30, Sudheer three for 23) lost to Sakshi 129 for one in 16.4 overs (Sudheer 66 n.o., Nawaz 52 n.o.) .

Run feast

A fifth division league match of VDCA saw a run feast as Symond Blues and Vizag Greens made most of the short boundary of the ACA-VDCA ‘B' ground on Monday. Symond Blues made 412 for eight with K. Ramu scoring a century. There were 74 extras in the total. Vizag Greens made a bid to match the rival's scoring spree but ended at 300 for three.
