KOLKATA: Top-seeded Calcutta consolidated its lead beating second-seeded Delhi 2.5-1.5 in the fifth round of the North-East zone inter-university chess tournament at the Khudiram Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

After five rounds, Calcutta, with 17.5 points, enjoyed a slender one-point lead over third-seeded Jadavpur (16.5) while Delhi remained third with 15.

A total of 40 universities are participating in the event, which will have the final two rounds on Friday. — Principal Correspondent
