KOLKATA: JCT Mills held host Chirag United SC to a 1-1 draw in an 11th round encounter of the I-League here at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday.

The home side’s hopes of reaching the top of the standings took a beating as JCT thwarted the attacks with its goalkeeper Karanjit Singh making a few good saves.

Chirag went into the lead through its Brazilian striker Joshimar Da Silva before Orji Penn equalised for JCT.

Chirag was favoured over JCT, which has not won a match since the second round (where it beat Mohun Bagan 2-1).

Chirag began attacking from the start and tasted success in the 15th minute when Joshimar headed home a measured freekick from midfielder Denson Devadas.

JCT found the equaliser when Penn, who saw Balwant Singh send an attempt over from close in the 31st minute, got himself in the act with a powerful grounder that found the host’s net in 35th minute.— Principal Correspondent
