Competitive athletics featuring top names who figured in the recent Olympic Games in London returns to the city when the Tamil Nadu Athletics Association plays host to the four-day National Open meet from September 10 at the JN Stadium.

Expectations are high since this meet is the first important event after the Olympics and also coming against the backdrop of this metropolis being the venue for the next Asian Track and Field meet in 2013.

Mr. T. K. Rajendran, ADGP and Secretary, Tamil Nadu Olympic Association, informed that around 1000 athletes from leading institutions and states would be on view during the four-day meet which concludes on September 13.

Indian Railways, All-India Police and Indian Bank are among the institutions in the competition along with important state units.

Top women stars like Krishna Poonia, Mayooka Johny, Sahana Kumari, Seema Antil and Tintu Luka are among the list of competitors. Tintu is scheduled to don the Railway colours. — Special Correspondent
