Kalou puts Chelsea in second place

LONDON: Salomon Kalou’s two goals put Chelsea in second place in the English Premier League after a 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough, while Liverpool was held 1-1 by Wigan on Wednesday.

The draw dropped Liverpool to third, level on points with Chelsea but behind on goal difference. Both are two points behind Manchester United.

In the Italian league, David Beckham scored off a free-kick but Diego Milito equalised three minutes from the end as AC Milan settled for a 1-1 draw against Genoa in the Italian Serie ‘A’.

Italian Serie ‘A’: AC Milan 1 (Beckham 33) drew with Genoa 1 (Milito 87); Catania 0 lost to Inter Milan 2 (Stankovic 5, Ibrahimovic 71); Udinese 2 (Quagliarella 20, Di Natale 74) bt Juventus 1 (Iaquinta 77). — AP
