: 15-year-olds S.K. Mukund and S. Praveena clinched the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively, in contrasting fashions, in the ABI Showatech State-ranking junior tennis tournament at the Krishnan Tennis Centre, Kottivakkam here on Saturday.
While Mukund eased past S. Viswesh 6-2, 6-1 in under an hour in the final, Praveena overcame a strong challenge from Lavanya Saravanan 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the girls’ summit clash.
A precocious kid, Mukund, doing his Bachelors of Business Administration through correspondence, played well from the baseline and committed lesser unforced errors than his opponent.
After taking a 4-2 lead, Praveena lost her serve in the seventh game. But she recovered quickly by breaking Lavanya in the next game and asserted her superiority thereafter.
Ananth Ramanujam, Director, Turbo Energy Ltd, gave away the prizes.
