KOLKATA: Binign Lyngkhoi won the fifth edition of the Airtel Kolkata marathon here on Sunday. The Army Sports Institute (Pune) runner completed the 42.2 km stretch in 2h 21m 7s to take home the winner’s cheque for Rs. 3.20 lakh.
Last year’s winner Bhairav Singh Lone from Madhya Pradesh (2:26.49) had to be content with the runner-up spot, while Army Sports Institute (Hyderabad) runner Neeraj Pal Singh took the third position (2:27.13). The second and third place winners earned Rs. 1.60 lakh and Rs. 80,000 respectively.
Kavita Raut of ONGC (Maharashtra) emerged the champion in the women’s section which was run over a distance of 10.5 km. Raut completed the race in 32m 55s, overtaking Kerala’s Preeja Sreedharan who finished in 32m 58s.
The winner earned a cheque for Rs. 1.10 lakh while the runner-up got Rs. 55,000.
Pampa Chanda, who was aiming for a hat-trick, finished third in 34m 28s.
Around 25,000 people, including celebrities, took part in the ‘run for all’ race held over a distance of 4.2 km.
