R. Vaishali, a student of Velammal MHSS (Mogappair), emerged sole leader in the girls' section with six points after the sixth round of the Velammal's 25th State under-13 chess championship, organised by Karur DCA, here on Friday.

In the boys' category, three players — A.Ra. Harikrishnan, Al. Muthaiah and R. Akash — shared the lead with 5.5 points.

VOC is champion

S.P. Nathan (65 not out & three for 23) came up with an all-round show as VOC XI scored a 39-run win over Ramesh Flowers Cricket Club to emerge the champion of the TDCA-Ratan Trophy Twenty20 cricket tournament, here recently.

After posting 164 for eight, thanks largely to the efforts of Nathan, VOC returned strongly to bundle out its opponent for 125 in a shade less than 18 overs.

Sushil, Finance Director of Ramesh Flowers, gave away the prizes.
