Four meet records were bettered on the second day of the Federation Cup junior athletics meet in Pune on Wednesday.
Rahul Kumar Pal (5000m) and Rajesh Kumar Bind (javelin), both of Maharashtra, in the junior men (under-20) events and Sahanara Khatun of Bengal (5000m) and Anu R. of Kerala (400m hurdles) among junior women were the record-setters.
Rahul Kumar clocked 14:16.67 for the 5000, bettering the 2001 mark of 14:55.93, Bind threw 74.75m, bettering the 2004 record of 69.25m, while Khatun (17:30.48) improved upon the old mark of 17:41.17 set in 2009, and Anu bettered the 2001 record of 1:02.10 by clocking 1:01.06.
Delhi's 2010 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist, Arjun, recorded a personal best 57.57m in discus.
He narrowly missed the national record and meet record of 58.10m set by Kripal Singh of Punjab in the last edition.
Navjeet Kaur, the Commonwealth Youth Games bronze medallist, completed a double by winning the junior women's discus event with a throw of 44.25m.
She had earlier won the shot put title.
Archana Suseendran from Tamil Nadu, who missed a medal in 100m on the opening day, took the 200 metres in a near photo-finish with Orissa girl Dutee Chand.
Archana clocked 24.96s to her closest rival's 24.97.
Tamil Nadu bagged its second gold of the day when triple jumper Raja Sekar came up with an opening round 15.80m that clinched the title.
