NEW DELHI: Indian National Football Club (INFC) defeated Punjab Police 2-1 in a Group ‘B’ match of the fifth Lt. Governor’s invitational DDA football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

Exhibiting better team effort, INFC gained the lead in the 17th minute through Austin’s header which hit the post before going in.

Punjab Police drew parity when Amandeep Batra’s header kissed the upright before finding the net in the 48th minute.

After a few chances went futile because of poor finishing, Amjad Hussain scored the winner for INFC when he netted a 25-yard volley in the 65th minute. He was declared the man of the match.

INFC gathered three points to increase its tally to six from two outings. Punjab Police is yet to open its account.

In another match, two second-half goals guided Goa Football Association (under-21) to a 2-0 victory over Moonlight Club and open its campaign with three points. Dawson Fernandes (57th minute) and Milagres Gonsalves (64th) were the scorers. — Sports Reporter
