VIJAYAWADA: In a closely fought match, Seventh Day Adventist HS defeated Sidhartha (EM) HS by one wicket in the Krishna District Cricket Association's inter-schools' cricket tournament here on Wednesday.

The scores: NSM PS 185 for nine in 40 overs (Sandeep five for 20) bt HMK HS 38 in 9.3 overs (Prashanth Misra five for 16).

VMS HS 76 (K. Harish six for 12) lost to V.P. Siddhartha PS 79 for five in 13.3 overs (Pitchaiah four for 26).

Sidhartha (EM) HS 116 in 40 overs (Karunakaran four for 26) lost to Seventh Day Adventist 117 for nine in 22.1 overs (Rohit Verma five for 28)

South Central Railway's Vijayawada division ball badminton team secured first place in the State-level invitation ball badminton tournament held at Nunaparthi (Vizag) on February 12 and 13, said Personnel Inspector (Sports) N. Arjuna Rao here on Wednesday.

Vijayawada team won all the league matches in which nine teams took part. The team defeated Reddy Friends (Nuzvid) and East Coast Railway (Vizag) in the crucial super-league fixtures to emerge victorious. M. Manohar and A. Srinivasa Rao were instrumental in their team's title triumph. Divisional Railway Manager J .N. Jagannanth congratulated the team.

Chess tournament

Champions Chess Academy will organise a two-day Bobba Madhuravani memorial chess tournament for school children at its premises on February 18 and 19, said academy director V.R. Bobba here on Wednesday.
