MUMBAI: Bharat Petroleum (BP) lost the match after dominating proceedings in the first half against Punjab and Sind Bank (PSB).

PSB produced three stunning strikes to rally from 1-2 down and won 3-2, in the 47th Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament quarterfinal league held here on Thursday.

Gurpreet Singh struck first for BP before Kulwinder Singh equalised for PSB in the 31st minute.

Pundalik Bellary increased the lead as BP made it 2-1. However, in the second half, PSB took control as goals from Bikramjit Singh and Parminder Singh ensured victory for the bankmen.

In another match, Southern Railway put up a stout defence against Army XI and even went ahead through Mahendra Singh’s strike.

But a penalty stroke decision disturbed the momentum and Army XI took over to win 4-1.

The results (league, quarterfinals): Army XI 4 (Dhananjay Mahadik, Sunil Ekka, Eliazer Lakra, Chitaranjan Singh) bt Southern Railway 1 (Mahendra Singh).
