KOLKATA: The biggest financial patron of All Indian Football Federation, Zee Sports, has suggested that AIFF ask for financial guarantee from teams participating in future National Football Leagues.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, the chief operating officer of Zee Sports, Gary Lovejoy, said that this step has become necessary after the recent disbanding of Goa club Fransa Pax.
The sudden exit of the club caused a lot of damage to the ongoing National Football League, throwing the fixtures haywire and also denting the structure of the tournament.
He said as a partner of AIFF and the sole broadcaster of the premier club event, Zee Sports would suggest the federation should redraw the regulations guiding the tournament.
"There should be a proper licensing policy that would involve different parameters binding the clubs in a more disciplined manner. This is necessary for football to flourish more professionally,'' he said.
Lovejoy added that Zee Sports would introduce another promotion bid NFL Happy Hours aimed at enhancing interest in the sport.
The new feature will highlight contests, with prizes at different levels, that will be held both for spectators at the ground and the television viewers on-air.
