Dusseldorf: Andy Roddick's preparations for Roland Garros suffered a major blow on Wednesday, with an ankle injury forcing the big-serving American to retire from his match at the ATP World Team championship here.

With Massu leading 4-2 in the opening set, Roddick was struggling to move on court and was forced to retire with an ankle injury.

Robby Ginepri suffered a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Paul Capdeville in the second singles match to give Chile a winning 2-0 lead.

Mirza crashes out

Dutch girl Michaella Krajicek took Sania Mirza out of the Istanbul Cup, with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win in the second round on Wednesday.
